Using free writes, collaborative improvisation and visual prompts, this workshop will spark new poem ideas in a relaxed environment. No experience necessary, come with an open mind!

You are invited to confront and engage with a fragmented world by injecting open questions, personal experiences, references to popular music and thoughts around ongoing global crises throughout the performance.

Through a Shimmering Prism, We Made a Way, Rhea Storr, 2021
Three sisters move through public/political space – a square, bridge, garden and hill – in this exploration of Black diaspora. Taking as its starting point empty carnival and parade routes in London, United Kingdom and Nassau, Bahamas, the film reflects on progress, the architectural histories of colonialism, and the female body in public space. Glass, mirror and stone are imaged in Super 8mm film, where texture and surface are used as a strategic way of moving through these four spaces.
Under Your Nose The Story of the Black Lesbian and Gay Centre, Veronica McKenzie, 2014
40 years ago, a group of activists came together with one aim: to open a centre for the black LGBTQ+ community. Against the backdrop of 1980s politics, the rise of Thatcherism, and the AIDS epidemic, they started on the path. Drawing on archival materials, Under Your Nose is a feature documentary dedicated to those trailblazers who, facing hostility and often personal danger, offered hope and a lifeline to many others. Their legacy is still apparent today.
